About Us
First Baptist Church of Mission, KS is an independent, fundamental body of believers. Our central focus is the preaching and teaching of Jesus Christ as found in His Holy Word. The King James Version of the Bible is the official and only translation used during Church services.
We believe that the main purpose of any true biblical church is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to “every creature.” We can accomplish our part of the Great Commission as we preach the Word, reach out to those in Kansas City, and support other churches and missionaries in America and around the world [Acts 1:8].
First Baptist has been in existence for over 90 years and while others have followed the fads and appeal of the latest ideas, we are still preaching the same message from the same old blessed Book! We still use the great old hymns and songs that have blessed souls down through the ages. We still preach against sin while seeking the lost. The Bible declares that “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” [Romans 3:23]. Yet God so loved the world that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” [Romans 5:8]. You see when God saw that no man could ever pay the price of his sin debt, Jesus died, “the Just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God” [1Peter 3:18]. By shedding His precious blood on the cross, Jesus made peace between sinful man and holy God [Ephesians 2:11-19]. The Bible says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” [Romans 10:9].

Kindergarten – 5th grade will also begin in the fellowship hall, where they will sing children’s songs, have a Bible lesson, and enjoy crafts\activities specific for their ages. Teenagers will meet on the third floor for Sunday School and then join the main auditorium for the morning worship service. When you arrive at First Baptist Church, you will find volunteers and ushers happy to help you find classes, nursery, and bathrooms.

We sing songs that stir the heart to glorify God. Many of the older hymns are based upon the doctrines of the Bible and still have a place in worship. Our desire is to sing with God as our audience. True worship music should draw us closer to God and stir our soul, not just our emotions.

Why does a church in Kansas City have a lighthouse as our symbol?
Though I was born and raised in the Midwest, I have been fascinated by lighthouses. The lighthouses were built for troubled times, for the darkness of night and for storms. Many lighthouses have a testimony of surviving both hurricanes and wars. In a spiritual sense, the lighthouse is a standard that survives the changes and influences of time. It is a beacon to lead the wanderer back to safety. The lighthouse: It is still the same through the calm or through the storm. It is more than a historical landmark. It is built upon a solid rock. It is a constant that can be depended upon in the storms of life.
Luke 6:48 “He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.”
1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
Jesus said, “… upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” [Matthew 16:18]. The church cannot be built upon the waves of public opinion. It must be built upon the truths of God’s Word. The local church must be stedfast and unmoveable or it will not be a help when the storms of life come upon us.
